Focus on BJP's return to power, not on PM candidate: Modi to partymen

Puri: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday asked partymen to focus on BJP's return to power at the Centre instead of projecting anyone including him as the prime ministerial candidate.
"Who will lead the party after elections is not important for us at this stage.
Now our priority should be to ensure return of BJP to power," party's election campaign committee chairman Modi told a selected gathering of Odisha unit leaders at a hotel in Puri.
"Please work hard to defeat the Congress and do not indulge in such things (projecting the PM candidate)," Modi said responding to a proposal by Odisha party leaders that he be the party's prime ministerial candidate.
The BJP strongman suggested that the state leadership prepare chargesheets against the Congress and the ruling BJD in Odisha. "Ensure that the charges against rival parties reach the people living in villages," he said.
He said at least 10,000 mobile phones of each Assembly segments should be regularly fed with BJP's ideologies and "inefficiencies' of the Congress.
Modi asked the partymen to develop public relations with people living in villages and use social media like Facebook and Twitter.
"We are passing through the age of technology. People in villages also now use mobiles and other means of communications," he said.
Asking the state leadership to identify leaders from different castes and give them positions in the party, Modi said, "Caste leaders hold votes which are required for any party for elections. If necessary, give up your positions to accommodate caste leaders."

Aries March 21 to April 19 You may be experiencing quite a few interesting conversations in and around the house. With three lively planets in that sector of your life, it would be surprising if there was not some sort of activity there involving words and emotions. The main theme may simply be a group discussion about a future plan or a domestic project that requires everyone's attention and help. After all, many hands make light work. If you can get everyone involved and on the same page, you might accomplish something fabulous.
Taurus April 20 to May 20 All the activity in your life may be centered around conversations you are having. There may be a noticeable intensity surrounding your exchanges with people, so it may be wise to tread lightly and see what comes of it all. This may also be an excellent time for research and discovery since your curiosity may be naturally piqued. If something does grab your eye, why not follow it and see where it leads? It may be something quite profound and meaningful.
Gemini May 21 to June 20
Try to keep your eyes on your finances as opportunities and investments may be coming your way. This may be a time when your curious mind needs to burrow in and find out all the details. The facts may be quite outstanding as the energy in that area of your life appears to be quite active and promising. It may be wise to have a good friend or some legal counsel nearby in case you need to act quickly. This may be a good time to rethink as your ruling planet Mercury will continue in retrograde.
Cancer June 21 to July 22 You may be sitting in the spotlight as Jupiter sheds his mighty glow on you. Joining the benefic feelings of Jupiter will be Mercury and Mars, so you may be quite animated and engaged in lots of activities. With Mars moving through, you may find things to be a bit edgy, but if you can understand that and adapt accordingly, you can do quite well. You also have the potential to be very assertive, which can lead to getting a lot done.
Leo July 23 to Aug. 22
If you can find a way to wrap up some existing long-term project or plan, you may be quite satisfied as the pieces may just clink into place. This should be a very productive time for closure and then a brand new opening. If you can seize this moment and ride that wave of completion, you'll be ready to catch the next new wave of opportunity as it rolls on through. It may appear to be a bit of a roller-coaster, but if you can continue the momentum, you may arrive just where you wanted all along.

10 more undergraduate seats at Government Dental College from this year

NAGPUR: City's Government Dental College (GDC) will have ten additional seats in the undergraduate course, taking the total BDS seats in the college to 50. These will be included from the current academic year, the admissions for which would be starting later this month.
A team from the Dental Council of India (DCI) inspected the facilities in the college during a two-day visit in June. Except for a few vacant teaching posts, the team was all praise for the infrastructure and facilities. Even as the decision of increasing intake by 10 has just been made, GDC officials are already preparing for 100 intake capacity. "The DCI team was happy to see the quality of education as well as the social projects the college has been undertaking. We planned to apply for increased seats a year ago and have started preparing for the next stage, that is to have 100 undergraduate seats," said GDC dean Dr Vinay Hazarey.
The college has also planned certain changes in the courseware and infrastructure. "The capacity of the hostel has already been increased with a new hostel building. There are plans to buy several new and sophisticated equipment in a phased manner. We are also planning to give more focus to subjects like forensic odontology, medical jurisprudence and ethics," said Dr Hazarey. As a government institution, there are several criminal cases requiring forensic work referred to GDC. Since the subject does not form a big part of the syllabus, focusing on it will also open up a new career option for the students.
The shortage of teachers mentioned in the DCI team report does not seem to bother Dr Hazarey. "It is not very big. Several posts were filled up recently and more will be filled as and when needed," he said. The district planning and development committee (DPDC) has also provided Rs 1 crore for equipment and other works.
Of the total undergraduate seats, 15% are meant for students from other states. Until last year, this number was 6, now it will be 8. The remaining are for the students from Maharashtra. GDC is one of the three government-run dental colleges in the state, with others being in Mumbai and Aurangabad. In Central India, outside Maharashtra, there is one GDC at Indore and Raipur each.
The way ahead
* City's Government Dental College (GDC) started with 10 undergraduate seats. A decade ago, the number was 30. It was raised to 40 later. From this academic session, it will be 50 with ultimate aim of 100.
* Rs 1 crore given by district planning and development committee (DPDC) towards this end. A chunk of the sum will be spent in upgrading the equipment, some will go towards amenities like wi-fi in campus and a 20-seater bus for the many camps the college conducts.
* Also, the increment calls for college campus to be spread over a minimum 5 acres, while the current constructed area is about two and half acres. A proposal for a new building has already been sent to the joint director (dental), directorate of medical education and research (DMER). A suitable area has been earmarked in the campus opposite the road in the premises of the TB ward for this.

DRS will be problematic till it's made perfect: Vengsarkar
MUMBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) may have stoically defended the Decision Review System (DRS) in a press release on Tuesday, but the recent errors in the first Ashes Test at Trent Bridge has only vindicated Indian cricket fraternity's stance on the controversial system.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has resisted the use of technology because of doubts over accuracy, particularly in relation to the Hawk-Eye system used for leg-before decisions. Introduced in 2008 to cut-out human errors, the Indian cricketers, past and present, have not minced words in criticizing the system.
The recent goof-ups in the England-Australia match have only fuelled more distaste for the DRS. Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar, who followed the absorbing contest closely, had no doubt in his mind that the DRS isn't doing what it was meant to. "Till it is not perfected it will remain problematic," said Vengsarkar.
Articulating his point further, he said, "I don't buy ICC's argument that there were only few errors. I feel there were quite a few wrong decisions made particularly the lbws. In one or two cases the Hawk-Eye suggested that the ball would brush the leg-stump and yet it was given out. It was debatable as the ball still had to travel at least a good ten feet when it struck the batsman. How could Hawk-Eye be so sure about the trajectory of the ball? The benefit of doubt should have gone to the batsman but the decision made was contrary to that."
Vengsarkar's point of view is echoed by Kiran More who dismissed ICC's claims, saying that even one mistake could prove crucial for a team. "There's still a lot of work left to be done. They were big mistakes which hurt one team's chances. I think they need to sort it out, make it 100 % and then bring it back," said More.
Manoj Prabhakar may not exactly be on the same page as the BCCI on most issues, but on this one, he partially agrees. "There was a time when India was chided from all quarters for rejecting the DRS. But now that England and Australia are involved, it has become an issue. The question I want to raise here is why have on-field umpires? You can replace them with cameras. The umpires, who are paid some serious money to officiate, have become mere spectators thanks to technology," Prabhakar lashed out.
Rubbishing ICC's claim that the umpires had made 95.8% correct decisions with a little help from technology, Prabhakar said, "What they are saying doesn't make sense. Test cricket is ultimate and everybody gives their heart out so why have space even for few errors? It should be an eye-opener for the ICC."
The former India medium pacer said ICC should toy with technology as much as they want in the limited versions of the game.
"Test cricket is real cricket and hence it should be left to on-field umpires to run it. The T20s and ODIs are artificial so even if they rely completely on technology it will not matter," he said.

" INSPIRING STORY "
Live and Work
Father was a hardworking man who delivered bread as a living to support his wife and three children. He spent all his evenings after work attending classes, hoping to improve himself so that he could one day find a better paying job. Except for Sundays, Father hardly ate a meal together with his family. He worked and studied very hard because he wanted to provide his family with the best money could buy.
Whenever the family complained that he was not spending enough time with them, he reasoned that he was doing all this for them. But he often yearned to spend more time with his family.
The day came when the examination results were announced. To his joy, Father passed, and with distinctions too! Soon after, he was offered a good job as a senior supervisor which paid handsomely.
Like a dream come true, Father could now afford to provide his family with life’s little luxuries like nice clothing, fine food and vacation abroad.
However, the family still did not get to see father for most of the week. He continued to work very hard, hoping to be promoted to the position of manager. In fact, to make himself a worthily candidate for the promotion, he enrolled for another course in the open university.
Again, whenever the family complained that he was not spending enough time with them, he reasoned that he was doing all this for them. But he often yearned to spend more time with his family.
Father’s hard work paid off and he was promoted. Jubilantly, he decided to hire a maid to relieve his wife from her domestic tasks. He also felt that their three-room flat was no longer big enough, it would be nice for his family to be able to enjoy the facilities and comfort of a condominium. Having experienced the rewards of his hard work many times before, Father resolved to further his studies and work at being promoted again. The family still did not get to see much of him. In fact, sometimes Father had to work on Sundays entertaining clients. Again, whenever the family complained that he was not spending enough time with them, he reasoned that he was doing all this for them. But he often yearned to spend more time with his family.
As expected, Father’s hard work paid off again and he bought a beautiful condominium overlooking the coast of Singapore. On the first Sunday evening at their new home, Father declared to his family that he decided not to take anymore courses or pursue any more promotions. From then on he was going to devote more time to his family.
Father did not wake up the next day.
