Canada housing market defies doomsayers
After a long cold spring that dampened house hunting, May sales of existing homes rose 3.6 per cent, the biggest monthly gain in almost 2-1/2 years, returning the market almost to where it was before Canada's Conservative government tightened lending rules in mid-2012 to stave off a housing bubble. Housing starts also jumped much more than expected in the month, adding to evidence that late-spring buyers have breathed life back into a market that some had forecast was heading over a cliff

The services sector, which accounts for about three quarters of British gross domestic product, grew slightly more than expected in April. Consumer confidence and annual house price growth also increased, both showing their strongest readings in over two years.

NASA telescope to probe long-standing solar mystery
A small NASA telescope was launched into orbit on Thursday on a mission to determine how the sun heats its atmosphere to millions of degrees, sending off rivers of particles that define the boundaries of the solar system. Scientists have been trying to unravel the mechanisms that drive the sun for decades but one fundamental mystery endures: How it manages to release energy from its relatively cool, 10,000 degree Fahrenheit (5,500 degree Celsius) surface into an atmosphere that can reach up to 5 million degrees Fahrenheit (2.8 million Celsius).

Pro-Telangana Congress leaders organise rally in Hyderabad
After pursuing their demand for a separate Telangana with the Congress leadership all these years, the party leaders from the region unanimously voiced their demand for the separate state on Sunday, ahead of the 2014 elections.
They organised a massive 'Telangana Sadhana Sabha' and a public meeting to achieve Telangana, which was attended by almost all Andhra Pradesh ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other leaders from the Telangana region.
Hailing Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Congress leaders expressed confidence that a separate Telangana would be formed by the UPA government soon. Significantly, they also sent out a message that a separate state could be realised only by the Congress.
"The Congress high command and the UPA government is seized of the whole issue. They have understood the seriousness of the issue.
The way public representatives of Telangana explained it to them and the way they co-operated with the high command, has been well received by the high command," former Andhra Pradesh Congress president D Srinivas said.
"Similarly, in the larger interest of the people, I am very confident Manmohan Singhji's government, along with its constituents will certainly take a decision very soon in favour of formating a Telangana state," he said.
The decision would be welcomed by Rayalaseema as well as coastal Andhra leaders and Telugu-speaking people would also remain united emotionally, he said.
The meeting passed a resolution that there is no alternative other than the formation of a separate Telangana state. It reiterated immense faith in the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and demanded formation of the separate state without delay.
The development assumed significance amid reports that Congress central leadership may come out with a decision soon, on the contentious Telangana issue. The meeting was attended by all major leaders from Telangana, including those who have not been vocal in raising the demand.
Speaking on the occasion, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha said the fight is to fulfil people's aspirations. He led a bike rally to Nizam College, the venue of the meeting, before the event began.
Recalling the cultural and political history of Telangana and the demand for separate state for the region, Panchayat Raj Minister K Jana Reddy, who presided over the meeting, said that the Congress and its leaders have always acknowledged the statehood demand on various occasions.
Expressing confidence that a separate Telangana state will be formed by the Congress, he said people need not lose their faith.
Congress Lok Sabha member Ponnam Prabhakar said that a plan of action should be in place to take forward the separate statehood agitation even in the face of adverse circumstances.
Senior Congress MP V Hanumantha Rao said the Congress would get at least 15 of the total 17 Lok Sabha seats from the region, if the UPA government created a separate Telangana state.
The gathering observed silence in memory of "Telangana martyrs", as per a request made by state Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu.

Aries March 21 to April 19 You may initiate changes in your home to expand or brighten your living space. It may be as simple as clearing out the clutter or replacing dark window treatments with sheer curtains, or you may consider a dramatic change such as adding a bay window or a skylight. If the latter, since Mercury is retrograde in this sector until July 20, it may be best to do your research now but wait until after that date to initiate home improvement projects.
Taurus April 20 to May 20 If planning a vacation, you may have to decide between taking a short road trip and visiting a distant location. Although you may long to travel to a foreign country, you may have reservations about the cost. However, thanks to Mercury retrograde and a lucky alignment between Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune, your travel partner may discover a special discount that makes the excursion more affordable. This may feel like a dream come true as you book your tickets and pack your bags.
Gemini May 21 to June 20
Your finances will be in the spotlight. While Jupiter's recent entry in your money sector may bring an influx of cash, it may also inspire you to spend it. If you need to purchase a gift at this time for your partner or a close friend, more than a little self-restraint may be necessary as impulsive purchases are more likely now. Turning to work, you may learn that a co-worker secretly may not have your best interests at heart. Fortunately, your strong work ethic may speak for itself and earn you high praise from your boss.
Cancer June 21 to July 22 Significant relationships may occupy your attention. It's possible that you and a romantic or business partner may not see eye to eye about a financial matter. At issue may be whether to spend money on a pleasure-related activity such as a housewarming party or a company outing or on something more practical such as new living room furniture or an upgraded computer network. Since misunderstandings are more likely while Mercury is retrograde, you may decide to wait until it goes direct on July 20 to resolve this matter.
Leo July 23 to Aug. 22
A sudden or unexpected opportunity to travel with a friend or partner may come to you. Your initial reaction may be that you can't accept the invitation because of your job-related commitments. However, after discussing the matter with your boss, he or she may allow you to do some work remotely. Another possibility is that family members may ask you to take care of their home, pet, or plants while they are out of town.

DMRC takes charge of Delhi Airport Metro line, Reliance Infra seeks termination payment
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken over operations of the Airport Express Line even as Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra), which ran the line, claims termination payment from it.
DMRC took over the operations with an Operations and Maintenance team of 100 officials to handle the line.
The total ridership of the Airport Express Line during peak hours was recorded at 21,000 per day.
The metro line was shut down last July after problems arose due to defects in the civil structure, which were later rectified and it resumed operations in January this year.
Since then, its ridership has been recorded about 11,000 per day on an average.
The takeover of the 22.7 km-line was completed three days after RInfra announced its pull-out from the service.
The company blamed DMRC's "persistent" failure to cure defects in the civil structure for termination of the concession agreement.
The Board of Directors of DMRC met on Monday to discuss the letter of Reliance (DAMEPL) dated June 27 intimating that they would stop operating the Airport Line from the night of June 30, and concluded that the notice was in violation of the Concession Agreement and the ongoing arbitration proceedings.
However, the Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited (DAMEPL), a Special Purpose Vehicle of RInfra Ltd (RInfra), has said that they terminated the Concession Agreement with DMRC for the airport metro line nearly 9 months back, vide its notice dated October 8, 2012.
"The termination clause had to be invoked by DAMEPL, as DMRC had persistently failed to cure the substantial defects in the civil structure designed and built by DMRC, within the period prescribed under the Concession
Agreement, and on account of Material Breach and Event of Default by DMRC arising under the Agreement as a result thereof," a RInfra spokesperson said.
According to the spokesperson, DMRC failed to make alternate arrangements for taking over the operations of the metro line, even after the termination of the Concession.
Agreement in October last year, adding DAMEPL was compelled to serve a final notice on DMRC to take over the operations with effect from July 1, as it was not possible for them to continue the same indefinitely.
DMRC is now liable to pay DAMEPL a Termination Payment equal to 130 per cent of the Adjusted Equity and 100 per cent of the Debt Due for the project, as the termination has arisen owing to DMRC's "Event of Default", the spokesperson claimed.
"RInfra is confident of recovering its entire investment in DAMEPL," the spokesperson added.

Brazil humiliate Spain 3-0 in Confederations Cup final

RIO DE JANEIRO: A young and inexperienced Brazilian side led by 21-year-old striker Neymar crushed world and European champions Spain 3-0 win in the Confederations Cup final here on Sunday.
Playing effective and assertive football, Brazil steamrolled over the football powerhouse Spain in front of 78,000 fans at the Maracana to win the Confederations Cup for the fourth time. With this victory, Brazil sent a message to all its rivals: under Luis Felipe Scolari, the host country will be a strong contender for the World Cup title in 2014.
As soon as game began at 7pm local time, Brazil made it clear that they had a plan for Spain, known for playing their tiki-taka style of football. In the second minute of the game, Brazilian striker Hulk made a move from the right and sent a cross into the Spanish area. Failing to tap the ball, Brazilian centre-forward Fred slipped and the ball hit Neymar's, Arbeloa's hand and turned to Fred who hooked it into the goal with his right foot. It was not a pretty goal, but it was enough to stun the Spanish side and trigger an euphoria in the jam-packed stadium.
With the crowds chanting "the champions are back", Brazil made several dangerous moves towards the Spanish area even as they didn't allow the world champions to play their pass-and-possess style football. Brazil could have gone up 2-0 in the eight minute when Neymar passed the ball to Oscar in front of the goal, but the midfielder missed the target.
Oscar made it up for this lapse in the 43rd minute when he gave a beautiful pass to Neymar on the edge of Spanish area and the striker sent a 110 km an hour sizzler into the roof of the net, with Spanish goalie looking helplessly at the ball flying above his head. Brazil was 2-0 when the break was taken after 47 minutes of play.
When the game resumed, in a kind of action replay of the first half, Fred scored another goal in the 2nd minute of the 2nd half to make it 3-0. This goal came after Hulk, again attacking from the right, sent a ball to Neymar on the edge of Spanish area. But the Brazilian striker left the ball for his centre-forward to his left and Fred sent a curling shot around Casillas to make it 3-0.
Down 0-3 and nothing going right for them, Spanish coach Vicente Del Bosque brought in Jesus Navas in place of Juan Mata. That moved paid immediately as Navas got his team a penalty after he was tripped by Marcelo inside the Brazilian area. But the Spanish were so rattled by then that Sergio Ramos' kick slipped off the right post. Spain's greatest chance before the penalty came with Pedro Rodriguez in the 41st, when he entered the area clear from defenders in a breakaway. His low shot beat Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar, but David Luiz came rushing in and slid in front of the goal line just in time to keep the ball from going in.
With the penalty missed and time ticking away, the Spanish had no idea how to get back into the game. But there was more humiliation in store for the team, which had not lost 29 games prior to this one. In the 22nd minute, Neymar tried a solo run and even dribbled past Pique, the last man of Spanish defense, but the Barcelona defender kicked him on his shin from behind and brought him down. The Dutch referee didn't take more than a second to show a straight red card to Pique and few players in the Spanish side came forward to protest. By this time the Spanish had already lost the game in their minds.
But they still looked for an elusive goal to restore some of their honour. Both Pedro and David Villa worked their way into the Brazilian area and sent cracking shots at the goal, but Julio Cesar denied them that respect by blocking the ball. On the other hand, the Brazilians who already had the match in their pocket were also trying to score more goals. In the last minutes of the game, Brazilian striker Jo, who came in place of Fred, had an opportunity to make it 4-0, but sent a weak kick towards Casillas.

" INSPIRING STORY "
Success depends upon maturity!
Maturity is many things. It is the ability to base a judgment on the big picture, the long haul.
It means being able to resist the urge for immediate gratification and opt for the course of action that will pay off later.
One of the characteristics of the young is “I want it now.”
Grown-up people can wait.
Maturity is perseverance–the ability to sweat out a project or a situation, in spite of heavy opposition and discouraging setbacks, and stick with it until it is finished.
The adult who is constantly changing friends and changing mates is immature. He/she cannot stick it out because he/she has not grown up.
Maturity is the ability to control anger and settle differences without violence or destruction. The mature person can face unpleasantness, frustration, discomfort and defeat without collapsing or complaining. He/she knows he cannot have everything his/her own way every time. He/she is able to defer to circumstances, to other people-and to time. He/she knows when to compromise and is not too proud to do so.
Maturity is humility. It is being big enough to say, “I was wrong.” And, when he/she is right, the mature person need not experience the satisfaction of saying, “I told you so.”
Maturity is the ability to live up to your responsibilities, and this means being dependable. It means keeping your word. Dependability is the hallmark of integrity. Do you mean what you say-and do you say what you mean? Unfortunately, the world is filled with people who cannot be counted on. When you need them most, they are among the missing. They never seem to come through in the clutches. They break promises and substitute alibis for performance. They show up late or not at all. They are confused and disorganized. Their lives are a chaotic maze of broken promises, former friends, unfinished business and good intentions that somehow never materialize. They are always a day late and a dollar short.
Ann Landers
Maturity is the ability to make a decision and stand by it. Immature people spend their lives exploring endless possibilities and then doing nothing. Action requires courage. Without courage, little is accomplished.
Maturity is the ability to harness your abilities and your energies and do more than is expected. The mature person refuses to settle for mediocrity. He/she would rather aim high and miss the mark than low-and make it.
Maturity is the art of living in peace with that which cannot be changed, the courage to change that which should be changed, no matter what it takes, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
