You have been having a time of it, dear Libra. As you begin October, planets are gathering in your sign, which is usually a happy prospect. The problem is that taskmaster planet Saturn will still be in Libra and will be casting his somber influence over everything this month. The gift of October is that Saturn will force you - and everyone in the world - to be more realistic and objective. While this doesn’t sound sexy or fun, being this way will help you get closer to your goals, and will also help you be in a productive relationship. Trust that Saturn knows what he is doing, even if at times his methods seem a bit harsh.

You might have noticed that something was up late last month when Uranus in Aries opposed the Sun on September 25, or two days later when the new moon came in to package all the energies swirling about. A new moon always takes the energy in the air and organizes it in a way to make it accessible and useful. That’s why a new moon each month is so important. This was happening on and in the days following September 27.

In the first two weeks of October, you will be under the influence of that new moon of September 27. It is one of the year’s more challenging new moons, for the new moon had to fend off angry signals from Uranus, the planet of unexpected developments, in your partnership / marriage sector, and from Pluto, in your home / family sector. One or both of these areas are likely to be sensitive, even hot areas, where you may feel stress from someone in early October. New moons set up a trend that lasts two weeks, but the decisions and actions you make during that time lasts a full year until the next new moon comes by next year.

Venus, your ruler, also met with Saturn on September 29, and underscored how Saturn will be intent on limiting your movements this month. At times like this, I like to think of one of my favorite axiom phrases that says, “The prisoner is truly the freest person,” for I feel by containing and cutting off options of the outside world, the mind is energized and the imagination is ignited. Ideas tumble out of one’s head like diamonds.

It is no coincidence that philosophers have long pondered whether circumstances make the man, or the man makes the circumstances. It think in this case, for you, this month, you will rise to new heights, far beyond your own expectations. Saturn is holding your feet to the fire - true - but he is also doing this to help you concentrate and not become distracted by things that do not matter.

You may feel that to successfully be a Libra these days, you need to turn yourself into an action hero, complete with special powers, like being able to fly, or to become invisible when need be, or to find enormous strength suddenly when you need it, say, when you need to fight a gang of thugs who come at you from different directions. This is an illusion, but I understand if you do feel this way. You already HAVE the powers you need to cope, dear Libra.

Your chart of the moment is filled with “squares,” which means “obstacle” or “challenge.” One interesting fact is that the more squares you have, the more energy the universe gives you to deal with what you have to face. That’s the poetic, lyrical side of the universe - it never gives challenges without giving you the precise tools you need to overcome them. Often we get a little overwhelmed and fail to notice the very power that lies at our feet. Never forget that planetary squares literally help you turn a corner, because they force you to adapt and come up with a solution - there are no ignoring things any longer.

One thing I was surprised to see is how many computers crashed as a result of Uranus (digital forms) opposed to the Sun on September 25. There were a large number of traffic accidents, too. Uranus rules digital forms, and computers, so this makes sense. Yet, I never want to be right about those kinds of things.

I think about your questions a long time after I read them. What I am left with is knowing your good heart, and I see how hard you are trying to make things right. You have my admiration and full support. I will be with you every step of the way as you deal with current dilemmas. I will show you every good aspect I see so you can use it to your advantage, like the sterling one coming later this month on October 28 - more about that in a minute!

Saturn only comes by a sign to visit every 29 years. He has not been in Libra since 1980-1983. Recently, Saturn has been in your sign since late 2009, and is due to leave in October 2012. In the meantime, you are doing some of the most important work in your life, for you will now reinvent yourself and move up to an impressive new level of maturity and sophistication. You will see yourself differently, and so will others see you in a new light.

You appear to be moving into a completely new role. You may be starting a business, or getting married. You may be buying a house, having a baby, or working hard toward an advanced university degree. Whatever you are doing is something new to you, and clearly you are stretching to meet a new standard. You may think you are not up to the cosmic tests being tossed at you, but it is Saturn’s job to help prove to you that you do have strength that you never knew you had.

Saturn is pleased when he sees that you are willing to experiment with new methods too, rather than rely on the old tried and true ones that oddly won’t work now. Once you do venture into new realms, Saturn will help you rather than taunt you. It may be good to know that Saturn never gives rewards during the period he is with you, but bestows considerable ones once he has departed (just after October 2012). All the hard work you are putting in now will pay off later.

My mother, Little Mom, who taught me astrology, taught me that we learn little to nothing during times of ease - she called them resting periods. It is during times of peril, challenge, and adversity that we learn the most, and it is also during these times that we find the deepest reservoir of strength within. She used to call the latter “character building” phases. Once you fully realize what you are capable of doing, and the full extent of the strength you possess, you will know you can rely on yourself in times of need. You will be forever stronger for having gone through this period.

This month, protect your good health and don’t take it for granted. Saturn will be very strong now, and so you may feel his draining influence. This full moon will oppose Saturn, so you will be very mindful of the obligations you have made to your partner. If you have been together a long time (and your partner may be in this case a business or romantic partner), Saturn likes to see things done to the letter and by the book. You would not be able to delay or put off a promise you had made. This will be true whether your promise was made to a partner in the legal or personal sense.

Mars will be in perfect angle to this full moon, so you may be attending a social event together, but this event may not be carefree or easy for you. Perhaps you feel you should go, but your heart is not into attending this event. Or, maybe you have many responsibilities at work or at home, and you worry about the time you have to spend away, for you need the time to get things done.

There is some indication near this full moon October 11 that you have a prominent male figure near you (your father, boyfriend, good friend, male boss - you get the idea) who may be ill, feeling lonely, fighting depression, or suffering in some other way. If this resonates with you, and you know who this man may be, offer help. The fact that he is showing up in your chart indicates you would be the one in a position to help the most.

The hardest day of the month is due to be October 13, when Saturn is conjunct the Sun in Libra. You may be feeling low on this day - tired or very sensitive to the criticism of a friend or authority figure. You may have too much to do, or your self-esteem may plummet for some inexplicable reason. This would not be the day to sign a contract, for it is likely to require an arduous output from you. Go to work, but stay by yourself as much as you can, with your head down and out of the line of fine. If this is your birthday, know that you will likely make a very serious, long-term decision this coming year - but that could be good, for you may feel your life is far more stable as a result. That is one of the best gifts Saturn has to give!

After this, everything goes better. The finest new moon of the year will fall on October 26, and light your eighth house of money. A large bonus, commission, tax refund, or other one-time sum of money is likely to be possible for you now, and it’s sure to set your spirits soaring. Money that comes to you would be generous, for this new moon in Scorpio, 3 degrees, will send a perfect vibration to Pluto, Jupiter, and Neptune.

You may refinance your mortgage or negotiate a good bargain on a piece of property. Neptune’s involvement suggests you may sell a piece of art or other creative work of yours. It is also possible you may hear good news about one of your children, say, that your older one was awarded a scholarship or received other good financial news.

Two days later, on October 28, there will be even better financial news, when Pluto and Jupiter, two powerhouses of the zodiac, team up to bring exceptional financial developments. Although this month will focus on those with a close, serious relationship with another, in general romance will go best AFTER October 13.

By the time you reach October, the Sun has traveled to Libra, six months from your own natal Sun. This means the transiting Sun is exactly opposite yours, putting the emphasis on the people who are important to you in your life and who you are planning to do something with you soon. Keep in mind that astrology is based on mathematics, so not every Aries will notice these aspects. There are two sets of Aries who will feel relationship pressures - those with early Aries birthdays who will feel Uranus, and those with birthdays in the middle of their sign, who will feel Saturn.

If you are an early-born Aries, born within five days of March 24, you probably did find late September to be a challenge, for you are feeling Uranus’ rays. The second set of Aries, those born within five days of April 9, are feeling the most pressures from Saturn (a planet ruling commitment, and that brings on responsibilities and often, restrictions). Saturn is currently opposing your Sun and also this same new moon in your seventh house, September 27. It may be that currently your partner is asking a lot of you - see how you feel about that. Commitment has its privileges, but also its responsibilities.

When it comes to making a new commitment, no matter when your birthday falls, you appear to be in serious mode and very cognizant of the long-range effect your promises will have on your life. This is usually a good, positive frame of mind to be in, say, if you are getting married or starting a business partnership, for will help you make a success of your venture.

Saturn opposed to the Sun brings consequences, and Uranus on the Sun brings sudden developments. Under these aspects, you need to follow a healthy lifestyle by the book. Others may have been living an ideal lifestyle, but will notice that something is not quite right. By the time you reach the full moon in Aries at 18 degrees, October 11, you will come to a culmination point. You will see the situation clearly, and will be motivated to act. This full moon is opposed to Saturn, so “doing the right and just thing” will be in your mind. Saturn rules obligations, but also brings privileges. Intuitively you can find the precisely right action to take. Fortunately, it will also be in perfect aspect to Mars, your ruler, which will make making any decision or action easier.

If you were born on April 7, plus or minus four days, you will feel this full moon the most of any Aries.

Romantically, if you are single, you are in a great cycle for meeting new partners, for Mars just entered Leo on September 18 and is set to stay there until November 11. Moreover, Jupiter, now visiting your second house of salary, will signal Pluto in your tenth house of fame and honors on October 28. This date gets my vote for a day worthy of five-stars! On the same day, the Sun and Pluto will also combine energies. This is very high-octane energy! If you work in the creative field, or with artistic people, Mars in Leo, mentioned earlier, will also help you turn out top-notch work. Dear Aries, you have it made!

Plan to have an interview or presentation on October 28, or the day before, October 27, as the energy builds. This all falls within the new moon of October 26, so you have a chance to make a great deal of money. Sign a contract or finalize a deal. You may remember this day for many years to come!

The influences of late September that brought you many assignments will still be at play as October opens. Suddenly there are many decisions for you to make, none of them exactly easy to sort through. Take time to mull things over, and don’t rush the process. At the full moon in Aries, October 11, you may have an epiphany about what you will need to do about your relationship. Once you come to a decision and take action, you will feel your strength and optimism return. Certainly, matters will now reach a full point. Fortunately, this full moon will be in perfect angle to Mars, suggesting the actions you take will work to benefit you and you will feel satisfied with your decision. If confronted with a choice of several possible directions to, go with the one that will require the most passionate show of courage - it will suit your style and instincts, and will most likely yield the right results.

October is due to be a high contrast month, where emotions will be heightened, and where those around you will be suddenly moved to reveal their true feelings. Saturn, so prominent in October, will be re-setting and re-booting relationships and situations for just about everyone, and in the process, truths will be forced out into the open. You have been going through many personal life changes since the eclipses started to come by in the Sagittarius-Gemini series in late 2010. So far we’ve had three eclipses in this family: on December 21, 2010, and this year on June 1 and June 15. The first and the last were the more powerful and possibly troubling; those may have required quick adjustments. You are a mutable sign, so you are highly flexible. That’s an asset, and the talent you have for adaptation will set you apart. More changes will come next month, when the next in the series arrives November 25, and this will be a very friendly solar eclipse in Sagittarius that might provide you with a breakthrough. A powerful lunar eclipse in Gemini will follow it on December 10 to emphasize a close, committed relationship.

Zodiac signs found on the same axis, like Gemini and Sagittarius, that are 180 degrees apart, will always affect you with equal power. The eclipse need not be in your sign to do so. These eclipses are forming the background music of the year, and will continue to do so for some time to come. Although more changes are coming up, you are ready for them. You are coming to a new appreciation of your evolving talents and maturity, and you are starting to have a better idea of the kind of close relationship, personally and in business, that you need to be happy.

This greater self-knowledge will serve you well, and is an evolving process that will continue intensely until May 2013. You can do more than you think you can, and the eclipses will provide all you need to get you moving again.

As you begin October, it’s time to sit down and think about what should come next in your life. The more clearly you can articulate all that you hope will happen next for you, and on what timeline, the more likely you will be to see those dreams materialize. You have many planets stacking up in your eleventh house of hopes and wishes this month, and Saturn will be among them. Saturn is a master of making things happen in the here and now, but he always demands that you show a staunch willingness to work at goals, and to stay on track. Fuzzy thinking does not please Saturn, so this month, he will be exerting a strong influence to help clarify your thinking.

The eleventh house is not only the part of the chart that shows our friendships and hopes and wishes, it is also the area of the chart where we work for the greater good of the community. You may want to take on a leadership position in a charity or political organization now (in the latter case, perhaps to support a candidate you believe in), in order to flex your leadership and managerial skills.

Often the experience we gain managing others as a volunteer can be honed in such a way that it can later be transferred to your regular day job. This is an idea to consider, and you may have an opportunity to make a difference to a group or political organization that you commit to in October, due to the new moon that appeared late last month, September 27.

Sagittarians born within five days of November 25 will be among those who are most likely to benefit from that new moon of September 27.

This month you will also have intense planetary energy that will focus on your love and friendships. You may have a friend who is facing a difficult situation, and your help to get her through this phase will be needed and appreciated.

Any situation that arose in late September, or that will in early October, in regard to that friend will likely take a long time to sort out, as it is not a trivial one. If you do commit to help her (it appears to be a woman, as the moon is involved), plan to be there in the long term. If you can’t help as directly as you would like, be sure you do not minimize or dismiss her plight - this problem seems serious, Listen with a caring, sensitive ear, and if you don’t know what to say, continue to listen by asking questions.

Saying “everything will be fine” to your friend would be under-estimate her plight, and be insulting to her - nothing will be fine until she makes it fine, and she knows it. When she opens up to you, she hopes you will sympathize with her plight - that understanding can be the greatest gift you can give her. (I say “her” as it appears that your friend is female.)

It’s alternatively possible that the way these aspects may work in your chart is that a friend may reveal hidden motives now that will trouble you and give you pause. You may see this friend has betrayed you. In this case, you may see that this person has not been the friend you had assumed her to be, and you’d have to break the friendship. Thankfully, this application seems less likely.

At the full moon on October 11, in Aries at 18 degrees, your attention will turn to your love life, for it will very likely reach a key phase. You may see a major development with the person you care about whom you have been dating. This moon will oppose Saturn, so some sort of news seems to cause you to pay close attention and to think deeply. If the news is not good, you may feel anxious or depressed. As you see, there are two very opposite ways this full moon may affect you. If your relationship is reaching the point where you may soon marry, it may be a time of celebration, and to announce an engagement, perhaps soon, in time for your birthday. That would explain why Saturn is exerting such strong energy, for you would be taking the future seriously, in the best sense.

However, conversely, in a very different scenario, if your partner is not serious about having a future with you, and you realize he or she never will, you may be understandably upset or sad. Full moons have a way of bringing true feelings out into the open and resetting our expectations. Alas, in a month where Saturn will be so prominent, it’s best to be realistic about romantic relationship than to hold on to a beautiful fantasy of love that might have been but can’t be realized. This full moon will oppose Saturn, and hence, it will be a time to see things very clearly.

Oddly, financial considerations may enter the talks you have with a lover or friend now. For example, if you have been living together and are thinking of breaking up, you may have to find a long-term housing solution before you can move. If you loaned money to a friend, but have not been paid back, you will feel a need to discuss that debt now. There are other reasons money may become a focus - you will see how (or if) it applies in your life.

The fifth house, where this full moon will occur, also rules pregnancy and all matters related to children. I will try to give you some examples to get you thinking how this might apply to you. If you are going through a divorce, you may settle a child custody question and agree on the child support to be sent near October 11. Or, in another example, a surprise pregnancy may come up, and you would discuss what should happen next. In this second example, Saturn’s presence does not mean you would not have the baby, but does show that you are taking parenthood seriously and would think through your plans in detail.

As you see, romantic developments may be very exciting or not so much at the full moon. The way things will go for you will depend on what has been happening in your relationship in past months.

I will say this: This full moon will be beautifully oriented toward Mars, which is a very hopeful sign things can go well. Mars rules your fifth house of true love and is now in fellow fire sign Leo, touring your house of stimulating foreign, distant travel. It’s clear that to travel will be the best way to fan the fires of existing love or to find new love.

If your birthday falls on December 10, you will be in a position to see the most benefit from this full moon, so stay optimistic.

Two days after the full moon occurs, the Sun and Saturn will conjoin on October 13, and all that I have discussed above will become more obvious and perhaps require a course of action. When it comes to your career, Mercury, the ruler of your tenth house of fame and achievement, is now in Libra and will conjoin Saturn on October 6. A career matter will reach a critical juncture on or near this day, and depending on what comes up may require strategic thinking. I just spoke about the full moon in Aries on October 11 and its likelihood of bringing a romantic / personal situation to fullness. Alternatively, it may work to crystallize an important creative project in your career. I will explain.

An entrepreneurial project may be reaching an important phase, and if so, it appears you will be working hard to put the final touches on things to present October 11, plus four days. If someone is critical of the project (possible), try to find the nugget of truth in that person’s review or opinion, and then decide if you want to make corrections. There is another way things could work out, and that’s if you accept a post in a humanitarian / charity or community project. In that case, the responsibility you would accept would be considerable, with many bits and pieces - and people - to keep organized. Saturn will be conjunct the Sun mid-month, and because this is a heavy-duty aspect, working to help others would be an ideal way to work with prevailing aspects. You would learn a great deal, engender admiration, and practice skills you can put to use in your real job in the future. You would also make new friends, which is another plus for finding new clients and job opportunities.

The full moon on October 11, plus or minus four days, brings a matter involving love to fullness. You may see where you stand in regard to a person you’ve been dating, or you may have a big social event on your calendar. Even if you do, things are not carefree or easy in mid-October. You seem to be preoccupied with financial considerations, possibly related to going to a big affair you are invited to attend. Or, you may put on a charity or political fundraiser event and feel a little overwhelmed by all the responsibility you will carry. You will do good work - don’t worry so much.

Alternatively, you may be concerned about a pregnancy or the care of a child that needs attention at this full moon October 11. Fortunately, a full moon’s effects do not last long; you will take action and move forward. Any problems you might encounter during this period will not linger, and I am not saying you will necessarily encounter any. Some Sagittarians will agree to get engaged at this time.
