You have been having a time of it, dear Libra. As you begin October, planets are gathering in your sign, which is usually a happy prospect. The problem is that taskmaster planet Saturn will still be in Libra and will be casting his somber influence over everything this month. The gift of October is that Saturn will force you - and everyone in the world - to be more realistic and objective. While this doesn’t sound sexy or fun, being this way will help you get closer to your goals, and will also help you be in a productive relationship. Trust that Saturn knows what he is doing, even if at times his methods seem a bit harsh.
You might have noticed that something was up late last month when Uranus in Aries opposed the Sun on September 25, or two days later when the new moon came in to package all the energies swirling about. A new moon always takes the energy in the air and organizes it in a way to make it accessible and useful. That’s why a new moon each month is so important. This was happening on and in the days following September 27.
In the first two weeks of October, you will be under the influence of that new moon of September 27. It is one of the year’s more challenging new moons, for the new moon had to fend off angry signals from Uranus, the planet of unexpected developments, in your partnership / marriage sector, and from Pluto, in your home / family sector. One or both of these areas are likely to be sensitive, even hot areas, where you may feel stress from someone in early October. New moons set up a trend that lasts two weeks, but the decisions and actions you make during that time lasts a full year until the next new moon comes by next year.
Venus, your ruler, also met with Saturn on September 29, and underscored how Saturn will be intent on limiting your movements this month. At times like this, I like to think of one of my favorite axiom phrases that says, “The prisoner is truly the freest person,” for I feel by containing and cutting off options of the outside world, the mind is energized and the imagination is ignited. Ideas tumble out of one’s head like diamonds.
It is no coincidence that philosophers have long pondered whether circumstances make the man, or the man makes the circumstances. It think in this case, for you, this month, you will rise to new heights, far beyond your own expectations. Saturn is holding your feet to the fire - true - but he is also doing this to help you concentrate and not become distracted by things that do not matter.
You may feel that to successfully be a Libra these days, you need to turn yourself into an action hero, complete with special powers, like being able to fly, or to become invisible when need be, or to find enormous strength suddenly when you need it, say, when you need to fight a gang of thugs who come at you from different directions. This is an illusion, but I understand if you do feel this way. You already HAVE the powers you need to cope, dear Libra.
Your chart of the moment is filled with “squares,” which means “obstacle” or “challenge.” One interesting fact is that the more squares you have, the more energy the universe gives you to deal with what you have to face. That’s the poetic, lyrical side of the universe - it never gives challenges without giving you the precise tools you need to overcome them. Often we get a little overwhelmed and fail to notice the very power that lies at our feet. Never forget that planetary squares literally help you turn a corner, because they force you to adapt and come up with a solution - there are no ignoring things any longer.
Of the signs that write to me with questions on Twitter, most are Libras. You can see this for yourself if you read the posts. My account name is @Astrologyzone, so you can come by even if you don’t have a Twitter account. You can see the messages. You can also see my responses to those questions if you go to my page: http://twitter.com/#!/astrologyzone
I am also on Facebook as “Susan Miller Astrology Zone” (four words), although I will confess I am on Twitter more frequently.
At the end of September I asked followers on Twitter to list their most important events as a result of the aspects. My tweets are linked to Facebook, so readers listed their experiences there, too. One thing I was surprised to see is how many computers crashed as a result of Uranus (digital forms) opposed to the Sun on September 25. There were a large number of traffic accidents, too. Uranus rules digital forms, and computers, so this makes sense. Yet, I never want to be right about those kinds of things.
I think about your questions a long time after I read them. What I am left with is knowing your good heart, and I see how hard you are trying to make things right. You have my admiration and full support. I will be with you every step of the way as you deal with current dilemmas. I will show you every good aspect I see so you can use it to your advantage, like the sterling one coming later this month on October 28 - more about that in a minute!
Saturn only comes by a sign to visit every 29 years. He has not been in Libra since 1980-1983. Recently, Saturn has been in your sign since late 2009, and is due to leave in October 2012. In the meantime, you are doing some of the most important work in your life, for you will now reinvent yourself and move up to an impressive new level of maturity and sophistication. You will see yourself differently, and so will others see you in a new light.
You appear to be moving into a completely new role. You may be starting a business, or getting married. You may be buying a house, having a baby, or working hard toward an advanced university degree. Whatever you are doing is something new to you, and clearly you are stretching to meet a new standard. The new role you are taking on seems to be one you never thought you could achieve, but are proving to yourself that you can. Many Libras are changing careers and moving into entirely new territory - it’s both terrifying and exhilarating.
Saturn often brings fear, but that’s just an illusion, for Saturn isolates us, and makes us fend for ourselves in the new area we encounter. Saturn puts you alone so that you can’t depend on the people who have always been there for you - Saturn knows you won’t find your own strength until you are alone. You may think you are not up to the cosmic tests being tossed at you, but it is Saturn’s job to help prove to you that you do have strength that you never knew you had.
Saturn is pleased when he sees that you are willing to experiment with new methods too, rather than rely on the old tried and true ones that oddly won’t work now. Once you do venture into new realms, Saturn will help you rather than taunt you. It may be good to know that Saturn never gives rewards during the period he is with you, but bestows considerable ones once he has departed (just after October 2012). All the hard work you are putting in now will pay off later.
My mother, Little Mom, who taught me astrology, taught me that we learn little to nothing during times of ease - she called them resting periods. It is during times of peril, challenge, and adversity that we learn the most, and it is also during these times that we find the deepest reservoir of strength within. She used to call the latter “character building” phases. Once you fully realize what you are capable of doing, and the full extent of the strength you possess, you will know you can rely on yourself in times of need. You will be forever stronger for having gone through this period.
This month, protect your good health and don’t take it for granted. Saturn will be very strong now, and so you may feel his draining influence. It is true that when Saturn conjoins Sun, as will happen October 13, sometimes a latent weakness in health come out for you to address. Ask your doctor if you need vitamins and get more sleep. You may assume you are depressed when in fact you are simply fatigued. See your dentist too, as Saturn will drain your calcium reserves, which could give you a problem with teeth or bones.
Now let’s turn to your closest relationship, which will be the center of your attention at the full moon in Aries, 18 degrees, on October 11. With Uranus in this house, your feelings about your partner may be vacillating wildly from day to day. Perhaps this is because you view your partner as unpredictable or suddenly acting out of character, making you unsure of who your partner is and what to expect next.
Some Libra may say, “No, my sweetheart is great!” and that means you find your significant other to be exciting and someone who perhaps works as an entrepreneur or is especially creative or in a scientific field, a good way to work with Uranus in Aries. Some Libra will be engaged for their birthdays, and if that is you, you can relax, for you have come through Saturn’s tests with flying colors. You have every reason to be happy about your engagement and impending marriage.
This full moon will oppose Saturn, so you will be very mindful of the obligations you have made to your partner. If you have been together a long time (and your partner may be in this case a business or romantic partner), Saturn likes to see things done to the letter and by the book. You would not be able to delay or put off a promise you had made. This will be true whether your promise was made to a partner in the legal or personal sense.
Mars will be in perfect angle to this full moon, so you may be attending a social event together, but this event may not be carefree or easy for you. Perhaps you feel you should go, but your heart is not into attending this event. Or, maybe you have many responsibilities at work or at home, and you worry about the time you have to spend away, for you need the time to get things done.
There is some indication near this full moon October 11 that you have a prominent male figure near you (your father, boyfriend, good friend, male boss - you get the idea) who may be ill, feeling lonely, fighting depression, or suffering in some other way. If this resonates with you, and you know who this man may be, offer help. The fact that he is showing up in your chart indicates you would be the one in a position to help the most.
If your birthday falls on or within five days of October 11, you will feel its energy very directly.
The hardest day of the month is due to be October 13, when Saturn is conjunct the Sun in Libra. You may be feeling low on this day - tired or very sensitive to the criticism of a friend or authority figure. You may have too much to do, or your self-esteem may plummet for some inexplicable reason. This would not be the day to sign a contract, for it is likely to require an arduous output from you. Go to work, but stay by yourself as much as you can, with your head down and out of the line of fine. If this is your birthday, know that you will likely make a very serious, long-term decision this coming year - but that could be good, for you may feel your life is far more stable as a result. That is one of the best gifts Saturn has to give!
After this, everything goes better. The finest new moon of the year will fall on October 26, and light your eighth house of money. A large bonus, commission, tax refund, or other one-time sum of money is likely to be possible for you now, and it’s sure to set your spirits soaring. Money that comes to you would be generous, for this new moon in Scorpio, 3 degrees, will send a perfect vibration to Pluto, Jupiter, and Neptune.
You may refinance your mortgage or negotiate a good bargain on a piece of property. Neptune’s involvement suggests you may sell a piece of art or other creative work of yours. It is also possible you may hear good news about one of your children, say, that your older one was awarded a scholarship or received other good financial news.
Two days later, on October 28, there will be even better financial news, when Pluto and Jupiter, two powerhouses of the zodiac, team up to bring exceptional financial developments. This is a five-star day, so be sure to use this day for talks that center on money in any realm. Real estate and family money / inheritance seem to be the areas of greatest gain. Make a presentation, apply for a mortgage, see a financial advisor - this day is made for you.
Romantically, this month’s serious overtones may have you thinking about how you’ve been conducting your love life. Saturn rules the concept of time, so this month, it may seem like you are running out of time. If you are dating and you want commitment, but marriage seems not to be an option, you may decide to finally leave. This may happen at the full moon, October 11, plus or minus four days, or later. Saturn likes to see progress - you will, too. As long as you have been dating two to two and a half years, which is the length of time Saturn visits a sign (said another way, a Saturn cycle) you are right to expect progress. It’s a tipping point - see how you feel.
If you are single and have not been dating, this month if you meet someone, you may be attracted to someone older, or someone who seems mature even though is your age, and that seems to suit you now.
You may especially love Friday, October 21, when beautiful, enchanting Neptune will send a shimmering vibration to the Sun. The moon will be in Leo, making it a night for pampering and luxury, too.
The best news I have for you when it comes to fun and love will be that Mars will be in your friends / people / events sector all month, until November 11 next month. Mars will make sure that you get your share of invitations to go out and have fun. Your friends will come get you if you hide inside! Mars will give you diversion, just when you need it most. This is positive proof that life should be more than just work, but also sprinkled with unexpected pleasures. Enjoy your time off, dear Libra.
Your most romantic dates include October 20 and 21, 24, 25, 28, and 29.
You are now in the process of putting into place the very foundation of a new life. Saturn was conjunct Venus at the end of last month, on September 29, and two days earlier was the date of the key new moon in Libra, still exerting a strong influence in early October. As you enter this month, your mood may be serious and somber, and you seem to be measuring and weighing your options carefully.
With Uranus standing opposite Mercury in Libra in your partnership sector in the first week, you may feel tense about what you consider to be the unpredictable, vacillating behavior of a partner. This person may be a business collaborator or a romantic partner, such as a long-term steady or spouse. This may or may not be evidence of more bad behavior you’ve seen before, but either way you seem to be paying close attention to what is happening now.
Pluto is now at the base of your chart, so a family, housing, or economic situation may interfere with your ability to end the relationship with this person, or prevent you from taking stringent steps to correct the situation. You seem to be biting your tongue. If necessary, look for a short-term solution for now, as you can always make more changes up ahead. If you are single and you know you are in a long-term bad alliance that has no future, there will be no reason to wait. You seem to be very close to the breaking point, if you didn’t already reach it near September 25 when Uranus opposed the Sun.
Your close relationship - possibly the same one - will reach another critical juncture at the full moon, October 11, plus or minus four days. If your birthday falls within days of this day, you will notice the full moon’s effects more directly than your friends who are Libras born at other times of the sign. Brace for a tense time that will require you to be practical, realistic, and unemotional as you sort things out. It may be evident now that you assigned glowing qualities to someone who does not deserve them.
This person could be someone you are involved with romantically, or at work in a close, collaborative way. Within a few days, a clear picture of your situation will emerge and you will intuitively know what to do. Seeing someone’s true colors can be disillusioning but in the end will help to protect you in the future by forcing you to see this person in the glare of daylight. If you do find something, you will adjust your expectations of this person. Mars, in your most social sector, will bring your friends to your side to give you comfort and good advice when you need it most.
Some Libras will react very differently to the energies of the month and find Saturn’s influence to be comforting. You may now get engaged or married to your long-term sweetheart and be thrilled to see that you’ve reached this new stage together. Any decision or action you take now will have a long-term result, which should be good news in your case!
Excellent financial news is due at month’s end, and when you hear it, it will be better than anything you ever imagined happening this month. The superb new moon on October 26 will set off your amazing luck. Things will be brightened even more two days later by the harmonious interplay of Jupiter and Pluto on October 28, one of the best possible aspects for bringing a successful business deal to fruition.
Whether you work for yourself or others, find a way to use this day, October 28, to your full advantage. If you are employed by others, during October’s last week, you will be able to negotiate an excellent benefits package, including bonus, vacation time, health insurance, and more, or if you are leaving your company, a generous exit package. If you are self-employed, use these dazzling vibrations of October 26-28 to apply for venture capital or a small business low-interest government loan. You can successfully pitch new business or sign a contract. One way or another, with just a little effort, money will find its way to you.
It is also possible you will receive a large sum of money on or near October 26-28 from other sources. For example, you may win a scholarship or finalize a generous divorce / insurance case settlement. Or, your family may give you a check, or you may conclude a deal on a house or other piece of property, and it will please you to no end. In a month that will be somewhat serious, and perhaps short on outstandingly upbeat news, you certainly will appreciate this unexpected development.
Dates to Note for Libra:
This won’t be the easiest month, due to Saturn’s prominent role in early October. Decisions and news will be serious, and outcomes long lasting. It will be a time, above all, to face facts and to take on responsibilities with a spirit of maturity.
Your hardest day is due to be October 13, when Saturn conjoins the Sun. You will take criticism or news to heart, but try to keep perspective. A man near you may be suffering, and if so, you may be needed to help.
The full moon October 11 will require you to make a decision about a relationship, or a partner will bring you news or a proposal, but whatever it is, it will be unexpected.
Financial news will be the bright part of the month, and come to you just after October 26, thanks to the new moon.
The best financial day of the month, possibly of the year, will be October 28, thanks to a harmonious interaction between Pluto and Jupiter. Distant travel will also be encouraged.
Although this month will focus on those with a close, serious relationship with another, in general romance will go best AFTER October 13.
Romantic dates include October 20 and 21, 24, 25, 28, and 29.
